One of the most innovative, thrilling and acclaimed drama series on television, 24, created by Joel Surnow (“La Femme Nikita,” “Miami Vice”) and Robert Cochran (“La Femme Nikita,” “The Commish”), will retain its unique format in the fifth season. Each episode will cover one hour of real time, and the season’s entire story will take place in one day. Once again, viewers will be able to follow several key characters through a day that none of them will ever forget.

In season four of 24, Jack Bauer(Kiefer Sutherland) returned to CTU when his new boss, Secretary of Defense James Heller (William Devane), was kidnapped in connection with a terrorist-coordinated train crash. Although Agent Bauer helped prevent an attempt to melt down the nation’s nuclear power plants, he could not stop terrorists from successfully shooting down Air Force One and attempting to assassinate the president. After this event, the most devastating and momentous in the show’s four thrilling seasons, CTU operatives were faced with shielding the nation from a nuclear terrorism threat that could kill millions of people and change the world forever.

24 was the first network drama to begin in January and run non-stop without repeats or pre-emptions until its finale in May. It has been renewed until 2007.

Day 1  Jack must save the Presidential candidate at the same time his wife and daughter are kidnapped.

Day 2  President Palmer lures Jack back to CTU when a rogue nuclear bomb is released in America.

Day 3  Jack must overcome his addiction to heroin and prevent a deadly virus threat.

Day 4  Working for the Defense Secretary, Jack joins CTU in finding terrorists plotting on domestic soil.

Day 5  He disappeared to protect his secret. He changed his name and started a new life. He thought he was safe... Then Day 5 began.

 

"24" star Kiefer Sutherland has inked a multifaceted deal with 20th Century Fox Television.

 

The rich pact, which is set to begin in June, calls for the actor to continue on the hit Fox drama for three more years and includes a two-year development deal for Sutherland's soon-to-be-launched production banner.

Details on the deal were sketchy, but sources pegged the acting portion alone at more than $40 million for the three seasons, which could make Sutherland the highest-paid actor in drama series.

While the deal with Sutherland locks him in for three additional years beyond the current fifth season of "24," the 20th TV/Imagine TV-produced show so far has been picked up for one additional season.

Under the pact, Sutherland also will be elevated from a co-executive producer to executive producer on "24" next season alongside Joel Surnow, Robert Cochran, Howard Gordon and Evan Katz.

The development portion of the deal is said to include overhead and a development fund for Sutherland's company. Sutherland will hire a development executive and will begin to develop and executive produce projects for television as well the Internet and wireless devices.

Sutherland called his past five years on the show "one of the most creative and rewarding experiences in my career."

In its fifth season, "24" is enjoying some of its best ratings and critical notices. The show, which introduced the now-hot serialized thriller genre, also has become a DVD best-seller and has spawned a mobile phone series.

Sutherland's performance on "24" has earned him a Golden Globe award and four Emmy nominations.
